There are various talent search examinations for the students, NTSE is one of them and is the most prestigious. It is a National Level Examination and thereby termed as National Talent Search Examination.

This exam is conducted by the NCERT or National Council of Education Research and Training to find talented and deserving students for scholarship support.

Every year NTSE is conducted in searching for such students and is conducted every year in two stages: Stage 1 and stage 2. Here stage 1 is for state level and stage 2 is for National Level. The expected date for the form for the first stage NTSE is September.

The exam is conducted in the month of November whereas the second stage NTSE is conducted in May month of consecutive year. NTSE exam is conducted through both online and offline mode and the pattern is objective type of questions.

Around 1,200,000 to 1,400,000 students participate in the examination, but only 5000 students are able to crack the exam for stage 2. Thereafter, only 1000 candidates are selected for the scholarship.

Exam Pattern

Exam will be conducted via two stages in which the first exam is conducted for state and union territory level. Whereas the Second exam is conducted on the national level and is conducted by the NCERT. However Indian nationals studying abroad are exempted. This paper is conducted in two parts: MAT and SAT. MAT is termed as General Mental Ability Test and SAT is termed as Scholastic Aptitude Test. The SAT exam is further divided into two sections language comprehensive and aptitude test.

Both the exams are conducted for 120 minutes and have 100 marks each. There is no negative marking applicable in NTSE 2020. The exam is offered in different languages such as Asamiya, Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu language.

Eligibility Criteria for NTSE exam

  • Applicant should be Indian national.
  • The applicant should be in class 10 and from a private or government school in India.
  • Age of the applicant must be below 18
  • Applicant studying in class 10 from open or distance learning is also applicable.
  • There is more condition for States or UTs that may be related to minimum qualifying marks in the previous class, age limit, etc.

Information related to State Quotas

There is a fixed quota allotted to each state/union territory which is recommended for the specific number of students for next stage. However there is no further level quota at next stage NTSE exam and final scholarship will be given on the basis of the results. This quota is revised every year under the authority. For the duration of 2018-2020, the quota decided for each stage is given below:
